Today's Call for Action: The Government to reconsider their rejection of the banning of children smacking

Today a hot topic comes back to the news: Protect children from smacking in England and Northern Ireland, say doctors

As a parent and advocate for children's rights, I deeply believe that we must address it.

Research in psychology consistently shows that physical punishment, such as smacking, can have serious long-term consequences on children's well-being. Studies, including those by Gershoff and Grogan-Kaylor (2016) and Lansford et al. (2005), indicate that children who experience physical punishment are more likely to suffer from poor mental health and have difficulties in their relationships later in life. It's time we acknowledge these findings and prioritise the safety and welfare of our children.

The fact that smacking is already illegal in Scotland and Wales highlights the need for consistency in protecting children across the UK. It's disheartening to see England, Northern Ireland and the rest of the world are lagging in this regard.

The rejection of the ban by the UK government last April is concerning and raises questions about our commitment to safeguarding children from harm.

Every child deserves to grow up in a nurturing environment free from violence.

Do you believe that smacking is ok? Does your experience reinforce smacking or does it reject it?
